The temple
This journey goes beyond the beauty of the temples and into the practices Thai Buddhists have kept for generations — learning not only what people do, but why. Guided throughout, you take part where you wish: paying respect to the Buddha, making merit, offering incense and candles. No belief is expected — a respectful immersion, a chance to slow down, ask questions, and understand what a temple truly means in Thai life.

1 Day 1

A gentle first day to meet Thailand through every sense — silk, craft and classic design at Jim Thompson House; a hands-on herbal workshop where you press your own luk pra kob compress; a traditional Thai massage to unwind; and the first flavours, over a Thai lunch and a relaxed welcome dinner.
2 Day 2
UNESCO Historical Park · a Thai water market
A UNESCO World Heritage day — the ruined temples and prangs of the old royal capital, and the famous Buddha's head cradled in the roots of a bodhi tree. In the afternoon, a slower note: a classic Thai water market, away from the crowds.
3 Day 3
Wat Arun · a Thai cooking class
Wat Arun at the water's edge — a working temple, not a ruin — read by a guide who knows what each gesture means. Then a hands-on Thai cooking class, market to knife to table, and the evening left open to the city at your own pace.
4 Days 4–5
The Golden Mount · meditation · a blessing
Where the journey turns inward — the Golden Mount and how a temple is entered, a first meditation led by a monk, an open conversation, and a merit-making blessing with the sacred thread, closing with a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya at dusk.

Thailand, through the senses. A gentle first day to see, touch, smell, experience and taste Thailand — Jim Thompson House for silk, craft and classic design; a hands-on herbal workshop, making your own luk pra kob compress; a traditional Thai massage to unwind; and the flavours themselves, over a first Thai lunch and a relaxed welcome dinner together.
The old capital. North to Ayutthaya — four centuries as a royal capital, written in weathered stone and the ruined temples the city left behind. In the afternoon, a slower note: a classic Thai water market away from the crowds.
The living temple. Wat Arun at the water's edge, a working temple rather than a ruin. Then a hands-on Thai cooking class — market to knife to table — and the evening left open to the city, at your own pace.
Where practice begins. The Golden Mount, then the immersion itself: how to enter a temple, how an offering is made, and a first guided meditation led by a monk — the breath, and the body, taught quietly and without hurry.
Stillness, and a blessing. Deeper practice, an open conversation with a monk, then a personal blessing — the sacred thread, the pouring of merit. The day closes with a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya. An optional dawn sitting, for those who wish it.
Farewell. A slow, unhurried breakfast, and the programme comes gently to its close. Where you go next is yours — fly onward the same day, or stay on and let Thailand keep you a while. Whenever you're ready, we'll arrange your transfer to the airport.
How we travel
Join the traditional morning alms round and learn why offering food to monks remains part of everyday Thai Buddhist life.
Offer incense, a candle and a lotus before the Buddha, and learn the three bows — respect for the Buddha, his teaching and the monks.
Join the daily Pali chanting with the temple community, your host explaining what the verses mean — sound you understand, not only hear.
Sit in guided meditation led by the monks — an unhurried first lesson at the heart of Buddhism: steadying the breath, quietening the mind.
Receive a blessing as the monks chant for protection, tie the sacred white thread (sai sin) at your wrist and sprinkle holy water.
Close the merit-making by pouring water onto the earth as the blessing is chanted — the Thai way of sharing the merit you have made.
Why a group at all
Never more than nine guests, chauffeured together from arrival to farewell. The seats often go months ahead — and the week stays personal and unhurried, never a crowd.

Makha Bucha — the candlelight procession
After dark, worshippers circle the temple three times by candle — wian tian — marking the day 1,250 disciples gathered unbidden before the Buddha. It falls on your temple-immersion evening.

Visakha Bucha — Buddhism's holiest day
The Buddha's birth, enlightenment and passing, all fallen on one full moon. The temples are at their fullest and most devout, and the evening processions their most beautiful.

Asalha Bucha & Khao Phansa
Two holy days back to back — the Buddha's first sermon, then the start of the three-month Rains Retreat, when the whole community brings candles and robes to the monks. A rare, devotional week.

Loy Krathong — the Festival of Light
The night the country floats candlelit krathong down every river and canal. Your closing dinner cruise sails the Chao Phraya as thousands of lights drift past — the most beautiful night of the Thai year.
Dates follow the Thai lunar calendar and are confirmed on enquiry; places are often taken months ahead.
The weather
Bangkok is warm whenever you come — the real difference between the departures is the light and the rain. Here is what to expect in each window.
The most comfortable season — clear skies, lower humidity and mild evenings. This is when Loy Krathong and Makha Bucha fall.
Bright, still days and warm nights, the temples deep in green before the rains. Early starts and cool interiors keep it easy — the Visakha Bucha departure.
Short, warm afternoon showers that clear as fast as they come, and the city at its greenest. Mornings stay bright for the temples — the Asalha Bucha departure.

Best requested about three months ahead. We confirm your places within 48 hours; then payment falls in two simple steps.
Secures your place on the departure you choose. Due 14 days after you reserve; your written confirmation and detailed, timed day-by-day programme follow.
The balance, with final guest details, due sixty days before departure. A pre-trip note goes to the whole group a week before you arrive.

Five nights in a hand-picked boutique hotel in the heart of Bangkok — quiet, characterful and close to the river and the temples, with daily breakfast. Rooms are twin-share by default; a single room is available on request.
Curious, unhurried travellers — couples, friends, and solo guests glad of good company. No experience of meditation is needed, and nothing is compulsory; the practice is offered, never imposed.
You needn't choose — every departure is set on a holy day, so you arrive when the temples are most alive. Cool and dry Nov–Feb, hot Mar–May, warm with short rains Jun–Oct; each date is dressed for its season.
Most nationalities enter Thailand visa-free on a 30-day visa exemption (the rule from 15 September 2026), which comfortably covers this five-day journey; your passport should hold at least six months' validity. Every traveller must complete the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival. For a longer stay, or if your nationality needs a visa, apply on the official Thai e-Visa. Comprehensive travel insurance — medical, evacuation and cancellation — is required and not included. It is the one thing we ask every guest to hold before arrival, and we're glad to recommend a policy.
Temples ask for covered shoulders and knees; light, breathable layers and slip-on shoes make the days easy. We provide a wrap where one is needed, and a word on etiquette before each temple.
No vaccinations are required for a standard Bangkok visit. The days are gentle and can be softened on request; the optional dawn meditation is exactly that. Dietary needs are arranged in advance.
The journey is quoted in USD, and can also be settled in THB or EUR. Cards are widely accepted in the city; a little cash is useful for offerings, markets and gratuities.
A 20% deposit secures your seat and is non-refundable. If you cancel after that, the charge follows the time left before departure — more than 60 days, the deposit only; 30 to 60 days, half the journey; under 30 days, or a no-show, the full price (mirroring the payment steps above). We count from the day we receive written notice, and we'll always try to move you to another departure before cancelling outright. This is exactly why we ask every guest to hold travel insurance with cancellation cover from the day they reserve.
